It was hard to follow. Very complicated with a lot of characters. Plus people were referred to by their name, first, last or nicknames.

Per the book
Gargano said, "Dueling is a practice traced back to biblical times, Cain and Abel, unable to settle their claim in any other way, agreed to stand the test of a duel.

Genesis 4:8 states Now Cain said to his brother Abel, "Let's go out to the field." And while they were in the field, Cain attacked his brother Abel and killed him.

Did the Church really teach that when Cain said "Let's go out to the field" Cain was requesting a duel? Why would that idea even occur to them? I can see in the age of knights the request to "go out to the field" be seen as a request to duel, but at the time of Cain and Abel there would have been no tradition of dueling. Also it states Cain attacked Abel, not Cain and Abel fought. Cain attacking Abel makes it clear that Cain was the aggressor. And God condemned Cain. God did not approve of the "duel". And the "duel winner" was not declared righteous. Instead Cain was condemned.
