My thoughts on the Topics and Questions for Discussion:

1. Another culture like the Commanches - the Huns.
Of course it is not fair to identify a culture SOLELY on the bases of its ability to make war.

2. Savagery and nobility are not mutually exclusive. It is a problem to apply modern standards to people who would not have known them.

3. If Hayes style of fighting had been adopted widely the fighting would not have lasted so long, since his style was so affective.

4. Quanah was a good leader because he was smart and adaptable. At first his mixed back ground made it hard for him.

5. One reason Cynthia Ann Parker had a harder time adapting to being recaptured as an adult was her age. It is easyer for a child to adapt than an adult. Also the other expected her to welcome going back to "civilization". They weren't expecting her to have any trouble and didn't understand why she did.

6. History remembers Custer instead of Mackenzie partialy because Custer was very good at blowing his own horn. Custer loved the attention. Mackenzie didn't even like to file reports.

7. If the Spanish or French had not been pushed back by the Commanches the U.S.A. would be a different country.

8. Quanah would probalby not have been able to rally as many warriors with-out Isa-tai. But the Commanche would have been better off with-out Isa-tai.

9. Quanah was unusual in his abilty to adapt to life on the reservation.

10. The way of life of the Commanche was becoming obsolete.

11. Quanah should be remember as a great Indian leader.
