It was interesting to learn why he didn't make his main character static. Cork ages about 10 years in the 13 years the books come out.
A static character is one who remains the same over the course of a series. Like Hercule Periot. Or like Sue Grafton's novel over 22 books Kinsy ages maybe 6 months.
Why he didn't do a static character is for one thing he doesn't like characters that don't grow and change. I do, but sometimes after a certain point it can get boring. I find my self thinking enough already. Like with Stephanie Plum, just make up your mind is it going to be Joe or Ranger. I can get tried of reading the same thing over and over.
Another reason is it allowed him to work out his personal issues in the book.
